How it calculates
- US duty uses transaction value without identified international freight. Canada excludes freight after the place of direct shipment and does not estimate freight before it. EU stock assesses ad valorem duty on CIF.
- EU stock import VAT = (CIF + duty) × the rate you enter. Canada import GST/HST = (that value for duty + duty) × the prefilled rate.
- US state sales tax is usually collected and remitted by marketplaces, so it is not a seller cost.
- Look up the duty rate for your HS code in the official schedule and add any additional duties (e.g. Section 301).

FAQ
How is US import duty calculated?
US duty uses transaction value. Identified international freight and insurance are excluded (19 CFR 152.103, example 4). The rate comes from the HTS code and any additional duties. The $800 exemption is suspended from 29 August 2025. Postal shipments use section 3 of Executive Order 14324, which is not calculated here.
How are EU import duty and VAT calculated?
A duty rate you type for EU stock is shown on its own, on CIF. Direct mode does not use that ad valorem duty. The temporary €3 duty applies from 1 July 2026 per declared goods item, not per physical piece. The €2 Union handling fee applies from 1 November 2026 and is not that €3. Neither is added automatically. If IOSS, intrinsic value, the goods-item count, the declaration date, or VAT is missing, profit, margin, break-even, and target price stay blank. They are not shown as zero.
What taxes apply when importing into Canada?
Canada charges duty on the value for duty. Transport to the place of direct shipment is included and transport from that place is excluded. This tool excludes the international freight you enter and does not estimate the earlier leg. Import tax is prefilled as GST or HST. Provincial sales tax is not added for provinces outside the HST. Registered sellers can usually recover import GST/HST.
